The "Inside Out" Program pairs college students along with those incarcerated in the Prison Industrial Complex together to lead a class alongside one another.
The classroom takes place inside of a Prison. In the case here inside of the Columbia River Industrial Complex. Students come in from the outside to attend the class inside of the Prison.
The subject taught was "A History of Mass Incarceration". It educated both students on the outside paired with Pridonrrs on the inside.
The class itself is educational. However there is another component to the class: that is stereotypes broken, and Prisoners being seen as humane beings; quite the opposite of how those imprisoned in the Prison Industrial Complex are portrayed on the news and shock value TV.
I fully support this program as does Lewis and Clarck College. I encourage you to support the program too should your community not have one. The experience is life changing, and I am honored to have been a part of this program in the past, and will continue to do so in the future.
